Implementing Defect Tracking Tools

Course Title: Implementing Defect Tracking Tools

Course #: STB16

Duration: 2 days

Overview:

A fundamental duty of software testers is to track, monitor, and report on the status of testing activities - especially the number and type of defects ("bugs") encountered during testing. Basic information such as a defect number, description, and test logs, where occurred, etc. must be collected along with aggregated data such as metrics and trend analysis.

This course examines the methods by which software testers can accomplish defect tracking. From simple solutions using spreadsheets to commercial off-the-shelf solutions, we will review what is desirable in a defect tracking system and what the challenges when implementing them are.

The course will provide an overview of best practices as well as look at several commercially available packages.
