In this 1-day program participants will learn how to identify the type of job they are interested in, clarify their strengths and aptitudes, develop tactics for finding the job they want and write effective resumes and cover letters.
Exercises and examples will allow participants to practice the skills as well as learn about them.

  • Why do you want to work?
  • What sort of work are you interested in?
  • What do you enjoy doing?
  • What have you done in the past?
  • What did you like or dislike about previous jobs?
Module 2 – What are Your Strengths?
  • What are you good at?
  • What are your accomplishments?
  • Previous job experiences.
  • How can you use your strengths in the job you are interested in?
  • What areas do you need to work at?
  • Are there strengths you need to develop or improve?
  • Why? How will you make this happen?
  • Do you need some extra training or formal education?
Module 3 – Resumes, Cover Letters
  • What are they and how can you make them work for you?
  • Who uses a resume and how?
  • The importance of a good resume.
  • Using Accomplishment Statements.
  • What are the main elements of a resume? Different sorts of resume.
  • What makes a good resume? What to avoid in resume writing.
  • What is a cover letter? What is it for? What makes a good cover letter?
